What looks like a single dense, brain-like or feathery plume on celosia is actually a tightly packed mass of hundreds or thousands of individual tiny true flowers, rather than one large bloom the way it appears from a distance, similar in principle to how ixora's clusters work but taken to a much denser extreme. It's a genuine annual on this site, self-seeding readily around the base of a spent plant but needing to be resown or allowed to reseed each year rather than returning on its own as a perennial the way chives or curry leaf do.
