Two Completely Different Plants Both Go by the Name Brahmi
Gotu kola is a genuine groundcover, spreading low and creeping across the soil surface rather than growing upright like most herbs on this site, and it genuinely prefers consistently moist, even slightly waterlogged soil, a watering preference closer to celery's than to the dry-loving Mediterranean herbs elsewhere here. It's widely used in Ayurveda for cognitive and skin-related purposes, but it's frequently confused in the Indian market with Bacopa monnieri, a completely different, unrelated plant that also carries the name Brahmi and shares some overlapping traditional uses, meaning a buyer asking for “Brahmi” without specifying further may come home with either of two genuinely different herbs.
