This Bleeding Heart Isn't the One Most Gardening Guides Mean
Bleeding heart vine, Clerodendrum thomsoniae, shares its common name with an entirely different, unrelated temperate perennial called bleeding heart, Dicentra, and the two are frequently confused in general gardening advice despite being genuinely different plants suited to very different climates, with the vine being the considerably better choice for Indian conditions. Its distinctive flower, white with a drop of red at the centre resembling a heart with a bead of blood, gives the plant its name, and as a vigorous vine, it needs both a support structure to climb and fairly regular pruning to keep its size and spread under control on a balcony.
