Titanopsis has warty, encrusted, rock-textured leaf surfaces that camouflage it among stones in its native habitat, a strategy conceptually similar to lithops's stone-mimicking appearance though achieved through a different leaf texture rather than shape alone. It's genuinely intolerant of water sitting on or around its rosette, since moisture trapped in the crevices of its textured leaves promotes rot far more readily than it does on smoother-leaved succulents, which is why titanopsis specifically prefers bottom watering, letting the pot draw water up from a saucer, over any watering method that wets the top of the plant directly.
