Dudleya carries a powdery white coating similar in appearance to ghost plant's farina, but its relationship with water is considerably more extreme: where ghost plant simply loses cosmetic shine if the coating is rubbed off, dudleya's leaves can genuinely rot or scar if water sits directly on them, since the plant evolved on coastal cliffs relying on fog-based moisture absorbed differently from direct rainfall or overhead watering. This makes bottom watering, letting the pot draw moisture up from a saucer rather than watering from above, considerably more important for dudleya than for almost any other succulent on this site, titanopsis included.
