Ajwain Belongs to the Same Family as Dill and Fennel, Not Fenugreek
Ajwain, or carom, is grown across Indian homes primarily for its seeds, used as a common digestive home remedy in a cultural role somewhat similar to fenugreek's medicinal reputation, but the two plants are genuinely unrelated botanically. Ajwain is an umbellifer, in the same family as dill and fennel, with the same characteristic airy, umbrella-shaped flower clusters those plants produce, rather than being any relation to fenugreek's legume family. Once established, it self-seeds readily around the base of the original plant, often producing volunteer seedlings the following season with no deliberate resowing, a trait it shares more with dill than with the herbs it's culturally grouped alongside as a home remedy plant.
